Why does automatic reverse holdout fail after Lift Test is completed?

Updated over a month ago

One of the most common reasons automatic reverse holdout fails, especially for Meta campaigns, is due to insufficient permission levels in Meta Business Suite. If the connected Meta user account does not have full admin access to the business and ad accounts, WorkMagic cannot update or remove geo exclusions on your behalf. This limitation is enforced by Meta’s platform permissions.

Permission Requirements for Automatic Reversal

For WorkMagic to automate changes to campaign targeting (such as reversing holdouts or geo exclusions) on Meta Ads, the connected user account must have the necessary permissions in Meta Business Suite.

If your account lacks full access control (admin rights) to the relevant ad accounts, WorkMagic will not be able to execute these changes automatically. This is a security and platform limitation imposed by Meta.

In such cases, you may see a warning or error message indicating insufficient permissions. You will need to either:

  • Request higher access from your Meta Business Suite admin

  • Manually update the campaign settings in Meta Ads Manager

Recommended Action

  1. Ask your Meta Business Suite admin to grant you full admin rights to the affected ad accounts.

  2. Once you have the correct permissions, retry the reverse holdout operation in WorkMagic.

How to Grant Admin Access in Meta Business Suite

To enable WorkMagic to reverse holdouts automatically, your Meta Business Suite account must have admin level access to both the Business and the relevant Ad Account(s).

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite https://business.facebook.com/

  2. Open Business Settings In the left menu, click on Settings or Business Settings

  7. Send Invitation or Save Changes

    1. If adding a new user, enter their email and send the invitation

    2. If editing, click Save after updating permissions

Additional Notes

  • Only Business Suite admins can grant admin access to others

  • If you do not see the option to assign admin rights, you may not have sufficient permissions yourself. Contact your organization's Business Suite admin

  • You can manually reverse the geo holdout settings in Meta Ads Manager if needed
