Understanding the Klaviyo Conversion API (CAPI) Enhancer

In the modern digital marketing landscape, relying solely on browser-based tracking pixels is often insufficient due to ad blockers, cookie restrictions, and privacy updates. The Klaviyo Conversion API (CAPI) Enhancer by WorkMagic addresses these challenges by utilizing data enrichment. This process involves sending server-side signals back to the media platform to ensure that every conversion and customer interaction is accurately recorded. By posting back these signals, you significantly improve the delivery performance and audience targeting capabilities within your Klaviyo environment.

The primary goal of CAPI is to increase the Match Quality of your events, leading to more efficient ad spend and better-optimized marketing automation.

Step 1 - Connect the Klaviyo Platform

The first step in activating the data enrichment process is to link your Klaviyo account to the WorkMagic platform. This establishes the secure pipeline required to transmit enriched event data.

Navigate to the Settings menu in your dashboard and select the Conversion API enhancer tab. Locate the Klaviyo section. You will see a status indicator showing "Not connected." Click the Connect button to begin the authentication process. You will be prompted to provide your Klaviyo API credentials to authorize the integration.

Ensure that the API key used has the necessary permissions to manage events and profiles within Klaviyo to avoid connection errors.

Step 2 - Select and Configure Post-Back Events

Once the connection is established, you must determine which customer behaviors should be sent back to Klaviyo. This selection allows you to focus on the signals that most impact your marketing funnels.

Within the Klaviyo integration settings, navigate to the Settings sub-tab. Here, you will find a list of available events that can be tracked and enriched. You can toggle the following events based on your strategy:

  • Active on site: Tracks general user engagement and visits.

  • Viewed product: Captures interest in specific catalog items.

  • Add to cart: Signals high intent for purchase.

  • Checkout started: Identifies users at the final stage of the funnel.

  • Placed order: Records successful conversions for attribution.

Select the desired event cards and click Save and enable to start the data flow.

Step 3 - Monitor Event Delivery Status

After enabling the enhancer, it is crucial to monitor the health of the data transmission. WorkMagic provides a comprehensive reporting interface to ensure your signals are reaching Klaviyo successfully.

Click on the Delivery status tab to view the Event delivery overview. This chart displays the volume of events processed over time, allowing you to spot trends or sudden drops in activity. Below the chart, the Event delivery summary table provides granular details, including:

  • Total events sent: The count of successful transmissions.

  • Errors: Any failed attempts that may require troubleshooting.

  • Last event timestamp: Confirmation of the most recent data sync.

Check this dashboard weekly to ensure that your Match Quality remains high and that no integration errors are disrupting your data enrichment.
